Heart disease is one of the common diseases that strike Americans yearly. In fact, this condition is claimed to be the number one killer of men and women around the globe.

Yes, heart disease can be fatal, but there are already a number of ways that can help you have a healthy heart as well as have a long life ahead of you.

The following are some lifestyle changes that you can apply in order to have a healthy heart:

Counting calories.
If you have just the right weight to your height, then that is good. However, if you are overweight, then you are more at risk of developing heart problems. Hence, it is very important for you to maintain a healthy weight, for this is your key to having a healthy heart.

Limiting fat intake.
You need to limit your fat intake to no more than 25 to 35 percent of your daily diet. Also, make sure that your fat intake are �good fats�. Example of foods that contain good fat are avocados and nuts. Ditch unhealthy transfat in your daily diet.

Eating three to five servings of vegetables and fruits daily.
To avoid developing heart diseases, you need to consume at least three to five servings of vegetables and fruits a day. Go for spinach, berries, as well as carrots. These veggies and fruits are rich in nutrients as compared to paler colored fruits and veggies.

Consuming at least two servings of fish in a week.
Including fish in your daily diet is good for your heart. However, go for the ones that are mercury-free. Also, make sure that you eat fish that are baked, grilled, and poached instead of fried.

Exercising daily.
By exercising on a daily basis, you are sure to have a healthy and strong heart. You do not necessary have to do tedious exercise routines. Simple walking or jogging can do the trick.
