Hypothyroidism and Acupuncture

Hypothyroidism is known as the inability of the thyroid gland to function maximally as a result of varied factors and reasons. It is mostly common among women of the reproductive age. This is not to say it can’t be found among others such as kids and men. It is just more common among females. The reasons for this, science has not yet been able to decipher.

The thyroid gland which is located at the frontal end and lower part of the neck is a butterfly-shaped endocrine gland responsible for the secretion of the hormones known as thyroxine and triiodothyronine. These hormones are generally responsible for the balancing of metabolic body processes in man. The shortage of these hormones in the body system is what is referred to as hypothyroidism.

Until recently, it was assumed that the only treatment available for hypothyroidism was via orthodox medicine. However, the recent boom in the alternative medicine sector of the health industry seems to offer an alternative mode of treatment for getting rid of hypothyroidism. One of such methods is Acupuncture.

This treatment method is popular among the Chinese and has been said to be very successful in treating various ailments. In acupuncture, specific parts of the human anatomy associated with peripheral nerves are pierced with sharp, fine needles specifically designed for the purpose. These needles function by getting rid of the pain endured by the individual and curing the ailment.

It has been stated that people suffering from hypothyroidism found relief in this method. While it has not been confirmed if it has totally cured them, it is possible that it could act as a form of treatment and help an individual live a fulfilled life filled with energy and free from disease. Acupuncture which has existed among the Chinese for centuries is a highly respected form of medical treatments among the Asians and has been reputed to have the ability to treat a lot of diseases and give permanent healing to them all.

To show how effective it is, acupuncture has been officially adopted as an effective mode of treatment in regions of South East Asia; and even as we speak, more research is being carried out on its effectiveness in eliminating and treating most diseases. So, if you think orthodox medicine has not done much for you, you might just want to try out other alternative forms of medical treatments such as herbal treatments and methods like acupuncture.
